FAQs

Questions, answered

Straight answers for parents about how we work, what to expect, and how to begin.

Getting started

What services does Wild Kids Allied Health provide?

We provide paediatric Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, transdisciplinary therapy through SPOT, the Next Level Program, Functional Capacity Assessments and selected group programs.

How do we start?

Join the waitlist through our Getting Started page. We will call you when a spot opens to discuss your child’s needs.

What is the waitlist?

It is our way of being fair. When a therapist has room, we call the next family on the list.

Do I need a referral?

No. Families can contact Wild Kids directly to enquire about services or join the waitlist. A referral may be required if you are accessing a particular Medicare-funded pathway.

Do you offer assessments?

Yes. We provide Functional Capacity Assessments and initial therapy assessments to understand your child’s strengths.

Where is Wild Kids Allied Health?

Our clinic is at 108 Wentworth Street, Port Kembla NSW 2505.

Funding and costs

Do you support NDIS participants?

Wild Kids can provide services to Self-Managed and Plan-Managed NDIS participants. Families should confirm that the service and funding category are appropriate for their plan.

What about Medicare?

We accept Chronic Disease Management plans and Helping Children with Autism items. A GP referral is required.

Do you take private health?

Many funds cover speech pathology and occupational therapy. Check with your provider for your rebate.

What are the fees?

Fees follow the NDIS price guide. We will give you a clear cost breakdown before you commit.

Is there a cancellation fee?

Yes, for late cancellations. We need notice to offer the time to another child on the waitlist.

Therapy sessions

How long are sessions?

Most sessions run for 45 minutes. Group programs and assessments may run longer.

How often will we come?

It depends on the child. Weekly or fortnightly is common, but we adjust based on progress and family capacity.

Will parents be involved in therapy?

Yes. Families are our partners in therapy. Parents and carers contribute to goals, share what is happening in everyday life and help therapy strategies carry into home and community routines.

Is therapy play-based?

Play and purposeful activities are an integral part of the Wild Kids approach because children learn through doing, moving, exploring and connecting. Activities are still selected with clear clinical goals in mind.

How do I see progress?

We set goals together and review them regularly. You will receive written progress reports.

What is SPOT therapy?

SPOT is our transdisciplinary model. Speech and occupational therapists work together on one plan for your child.

Our team and clinic

Who are your therapists?

We are qualified speech pathologists and occupational therapists. All are registered with their national bodies.

What ages does Wild Kids work with?

Wild Kids can help children and teens from 0-18 years.

What makes Wild Kids’ approach different?

We value child-centred, family-centred and evidence-based therapy, with a strong focus on play, movement, sensory and emotional safety, meaningful participation and respect for neurodiversity.

Do you support autistic kids?

Yes. We are neurodiversity-affirming. We build on strengths, not deficits.

Is the clinic accessible?

Yes. Our Port Kembla clinic is wheelchair accessible with a calm, sensory-friendly waiting area.

Do you visit schools?

Sometimes. We can liaise with teachers and visit schools in the Illawarra when it helps the child.
